In the corporate world: You own your career! Your boss is around and is there to help you but he is just a guiding light. It's only you who has to decide what you want to do and where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 20 years. The boss can tell you what are the possibilities in front of you and your boss can also tell you how to proceed based on current profile, where you want to reach and more importantly your potential. That's because he has been down that path and pretty much knows exactly what you are going through and how to get above it to proceed on the path that you must walk on. But still one has to remember that the boss is just someone who points out the mile markers, the person who evaluates your progress and tells you how you are proceeding towards your career goal. But finally it's you who has to walk that path and deliver! Hence, you and only you are responsible for your career!
