What is the singularly greatest gift one can ever give?
Is it some material object? Don't believe so ... too subjective.
Is it money? Better ... but not the best ... too fleeting.
Is it encouragement? Warmer ... but not hot enough ... can get too fake/unrealistic.
Is it knowledge? Almost there ... but still off ... can get too biased.
Is it time? Getting there ... but not there yet ... not always helpful as it's not necessarily what is lacking in a lot of cases.
The greatest gift that one can give has to be freedom.
Freedom is as objective as it gets.
Freedom is there to stay forever.
Freedom is the truth and nothing else but the definite reality.
Freedom is not biased in any way. In fact it's just the opposite of prejudice.
Freedom is something that is almost always lacking. No one can have too much freedom.
Lack of freedom is the cause of all clashes and all unhappiness.
If there is something you want to give a person which will truly help that person, give freedom.
Free that person from your expectations.
Free that person from your prejudices and biases.
Free that person from your bindings.

March 15, 2010 2:44 AMFreedom is the greatest of all, but there is still no way out from the other gifts to live freely. Freedom, time, encouragement, knowledge, money/material is possibly the best order. Nice post, very enlightening.

Agreed. That is a nice order. But again, IMHO, freedom is on a different plane altogether while the others are probably just the best amongst the rest. Freedom is all-inclusive and self-sufficient. Others aren't.

who am I to free or tie anyone :) ?
March 23, 2010 2:19 PM
Very true!
But on a realistic level I do tie them down with my prejudices ... my interactions with them are affected and hence I am saying to free them of that ... even though finally i will be freeing myself as it was just me who was getting tied and bound down ... I am freeing them as well in some sense as I don't expect them to behave/act a particular way.

Apt!

it is not that easy to rise above human nature to expect and be prejudiced.but true freedom is definitely a very priced gift..but then can being detached be equated to freedom?for the former is not very appreciable although the latter is..
May 08, 2010 6:49 PM
yes, i feel the two are the same ... only the detached can provide complete freedom and only those who can give complete freedom to all others are truly detached ... if I can give someone complete freedom from my expectations and prejudices then I am truly detached as far as that person is concerned.
