1. Do not interfere in others' business unless asked
Do not interfere in others' business unless asked. Makes perfect sense. Do not interfere in someone else's business and you will have that much less to worry about. By do not interfere i think the commandment means that be such that you dont feel like interfering not someone who wants to interfere but just holds back. In my opinion, thats as bad as interfering itself.
Also is this to be written in stone and followed accordingly or are there exceptions to it ? What if you see a friend or a family member wasting his life away in drugs, booze, fag, ... What do we do then? Does this commandment still apply or are we supposed to make an exception and interfere for that near and dear one's well-being. If an exception is made, who are we to decide whats good or bad for that person. If we decide for him/her arent we basically losing our peace of mind because in that case our peace of mind totally depends on whether that person follows what we think is best for him/her or not.
I guess thats the whole reason why we shouldnt interfere in other people's affairs as we depend on them after that for our peace of mind, in the sense that depending on whether they listen to what we think is right or wrong for them we will get peace of mind; if they listen we are at peace, if they dont then we arent. We lose the very important independence, so very necessary for peace of mind.
So I guess the best way out is to tell someone you really care about just once (for duty-sake, satisfaction-sake, whatever u want to term it as) if you think that person is falling ... after that no need to meddle again ... each person for himself .... each person can/does look out for his/her own good, methinks. Hence, its just a line written in the sand and not in stone.
