One - A majority
Why do I find solace in a crowd … being part of a majority?
Is it the inherent fear that even if I am doing something right I shouldn’t be alone while doing it?
On the other hand let the thing I am doing be wrong but as long as I have a majority backing me up that’s okay with me. If that’s what the majority of the people would have done in a particular situation then that action becomes justified for me.
That inherent fear is a mix of two major things, IMHO:
1. The need for a muted approval from the majority which indicates a major lack of confidence.
2. A major attitude of easy compromise when it comes to doing the popular thing rather than the 'right' thing.
I still think, and as a result act, like a crowd rather than an individual.
Only when I am able to break out of this 'crowd' attitude will I truly be happy. Only then will the things I’ll be doing be the ones I want to do. Happiness, on a base level, is the mind being sated. The next (and true) level of happiness is transcending the previous base level (it’s a step-by-step process).
For reaching that base level I need to realize which actions of mine are due to the 'crowd' mentality and which ones are individualistic. And start with those.
This will take care of the first reason. As for the second one, that’s just a matter of 'having' strong principles which are easy (and technically all that will be left) when the first has been achieved.
True for the materialistic world. And equally spot on for the spiritual realm.

December 09, 2010 8:21 PMtrue strength lies in baring the individuality..we take solace in being adjudged by other's perception for it takes guts to stand outside the crowd!imho...
ona lighter note somewhere i had read:(dunno if it is relevant here)
Till no one has achieved it seems impossible
when one has achieved, it seemed possible but difficult
when two have achieved,it is definitely possible
when 3 have achieved, there is saturation..and the thing has become hackneyed!
