Our obsession with the past
Why do we always try to get all our pleasure from the memories of the past or dreams about the future ??? Why do we want to live in make-believe worlds ???
The only thing we have with us is present, lets be happy in that. It’s the REAL world and nothing is more pleasure-giving that the present.
I think a man who tries to derive pleasure from the memories of the past is really pitiable. How else can you explain his dabbling with the past or into the future, when he has the present to live in. He is always trying to escape the present and go into the past or the future to derive the pleasure or motivation for something.
According to me, the true test of the progress of a human being is his capacity to live in the present. The more he looks into the past, the more it means he was happy/satisfied then than he is now, which is a clear indication of the progress he has made.
Live in the present !
Live in the moment !
Past's truly gone, Future's still to come !
Enjoy the present moment !
