Hope or False Hope
Even if I know from past experiences that a certain thing or relationship is going to give me sorrow, I still have a hope that it will give me happiness.
Hope for happiness supersedes the experience of failure.
“The world has survived due to hope”, “never leave hope”, etc are some of sayings that we have been listening from the childhood; but in this case, hope is hopeless and brings nothing but sorrow in the end. I don't get happiness, but in the process I do get sorrow and lose my peace of mind; as hopes breaks.
But I don’t like sorrow; so my mind quickly raises the hope that it was tough luck this time, but next time around I would certainly get happiness. The mind is so quick that even before I start realizing the truth and feel the sorrow of failure, it raises another hope and I start running behind it.
I guess the only solution is to stay alert and not let the mind do what it wants. Analyze each moment and the results will show.
This is not about being pessimistic, its about being realistic. You can't expect to get oil by churning sand, its not a pessimistic thought, its being realistic. I think this statement is analogous to the above argument. There is a very fine line between being pessimistic and being realistic. I guess the reason this is different from pessimism is because pessimists just crib and don’t try to find a solution, while here there is a solution being offered.
