Independence
Independence is the biggest provider of joy in this whole wide world.
It doesnt matter whether u r a nation or an individual ... the only thing which can make you truly happy is independence.
Dependence on anything/any person means you need something from others to make you happy. In other words you have to rely on someone else for the pleasure you want to get ... that means that the other person controls the situations when you get happy and when you get sad.
I think this should be the most discomforting thought ... that the remote control of your happiness/sadness is in some other person's hands.
I guess the key is to be contended with oneself and not look for pleasure from external sources but from internal ones. If we can be like that, I don't think we need to search for pleasure from any other thing/any other person. We can be always happy ... as the only condition over here is you should be there ... which is true always.
