Love vs. Attachment

How do you differentiate between love and attachment. On the surface it definitely looks like love cant exist on its own and it has to grow into attachment eventually. But I think love can exist on its own, its rare and that much more difficult.

The premise when love changes into attachment is when it starts involving ego, expectations and conditions. For me its like when I love a person, initially there's no ego, expectations or conditions. Only after a certain period of time do all these things creep in and ruin that perfect love.

Love is when you see a flower, for example, and appreciate it and like it for all its beauty ... Attachment is when seeing the same flower you want to make it yours, change its state to what you visualize that flower as.

The only person who can tell whether something you feel for another person is love or attachment is that person himself. The checkpoints are checks for ego, expectations and conditions. If neither exists its love else its attachment, methinks.
